The Chessel Centre is home to the Pearl Room and the Ruby Room. The garden here, complete with its own tree house, is the perfect space for the children to roam free and explore with their friends. It’s intimate setting feels homely, lending itself to quiet discovery as well as more physical play.

“The outdoor space offers the perfect learning environment for our little ones to become excellent at managing risk; we love to see our children’s confidence grow as they play and explore.”

The Chessel Centre was designed from the ground up, with children in mind, so that they can see and reach everything. The enclosed garden sits in the middle of both rooms, and the bi-fold doors can be opened up onto the garden, allowing free-flow access across the centre.

Child-led play is a major part of our philosophy here at BS3 Community, and our practitioners will set up activities based on what the children have been playing with. The practitioners will then further that play and deepen their learning.

Across both rooms, the children participate in regular small group times, which gives our practitioners the opportunity to really get to know each child. Our key people plan these sessions carefully to support the children’s individual development. They select elements that have sparked the children’s interest which helps to gain their attention and maintain engagement.

The children will also take part in circle time, which is space for a story, singing, or a discussion. More adult-led physical activities, although still informed by the children, take place in each of the rooms too, for example, yoga, cooking and lots of creative exploration.
