We are delighted to announce that our butterfly mosaic, honouring our much-loved and missed colleague, Linda Bayliss, has been installed in the courtyard at the Southville Centre.
Created by parent alum and Broken Stone Mosaic artist, Michael Henry, the piece shows a blue butterfly taking flight outside the Leighton Room and creates a lasting memorial to Linda, who died suddenly last year.
In true BS3 Community Nursery style our children got in on the act, helping Michael by smashing the tiles that eventually made up the mosaic, making this a wonderful collaborative tribute to Linda.
Huge thanks to Michael for his wonderful creation, as well as to Katherine, one of our lovely parents, who spearheaded the fundraising for the piece.
We would also like to thank all parents, colleagues, parent alums and community members who donated.
We miss Linda every day, but feel lucky to be able to remember her, with the children and the community. Linda’s butterfly mosaic will provide a peaceful place to think of her and reflect on how lucky we were to have her in our lives.
More butterflies for Linda
Each of our nurseries rooms has been taking care of some new wriggly little friends! We have been looking after caterpillars and learning about how they become butterflies at both the Southville and Chessel Centre. Whilst we have done this activity in the past, this is the first year that all six rooms have been looking after the caterpillars.
Linda loved butterflies (and elephants, but this felt more appropriate and achievable!!) and so bringing the life cycle of a butterfly to all our children is a wonderful way for us to continue her legacy and for us to feel close to her in the Nursery.
We will keep you posted on the caterpillar’s growth and journey towards becoming butterflies. We’re sorry they aren’t elephants….
