How we’re taking part in loneliness awareness week 2026
This June, from 15 to 21 June 2026, we’re taking part in Loneliness Awareness Week, a global campaign hosted by leading loneliness charity Marmalade Trust.
Here at BS3 Community, we’re committed to supporting local residents who may be feeling lonely or isolated. Loneliness is something we all experience at different points in our lives. By taking part, we hope to create space for more open conversations and meaningful connections.
About the campaign
Loneliness Awareness Week is the world’s largest campaign to inspire conversations about loneliness, and promote connection activities happening across the world. Everyone can join the movement by fundraising, hosting an event or activity, or sharing their voice on social media.
This year’s theme is Giving Loneliness a Voice. Across the world the campaign inspires people to recognise loneliness as a natural human emotion, and create spaces for people to express how they feel without fear or judgement.
Why it matters
While many people experience loneliness, not everyone feels able to talk about it. By sharing stories and starting conversations, we can help reduce stigma and make it easier for people to feel seen, heard and understood.
How we’re taking part
Brew & Boogie: A Community Tea Dance
On Friday 12th June we are delighted to invite our community to a nostalgic tea dance designed to bring people together and offer meaningful social connection in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
This accessible and therapeutic tea dance features live jazz and swing music from the Barrel House Vipers, along with gentle dance instruction suitable for all abilities. The afternoon is inspired by traditional tea dances and is especially aimed at our older community members who enjoy music, dancing, conversation, and of course, tea and cake. For more information click here.
Chatty Table
We will also be hosting a cosy “Chatty Table” on Tuesday 16th June in the BS3 Community café at the Southville Centre. A relaxed, friendly space where anyone can come along for a chat, meet new people, or simply enjoy some company over a cup of tea or coffee.
Pop in whenever suits you. The table will be open from 10am to 12pm and again from 1pm to 3pm. Everyone is very welcome.
We also offer weekly social groups all year round.
Monday Club for Older People
Based at the Southville Centre, the Monday Club is a weekly drop-in for older adults, running from 11:30am to 2:00pm. Each session includes hot drinks and a delicious two-course lunch provided by our BS3 Community Café, along with a different activity each week to enjoy together. The suggested donation to take part is £5.00 per session. Click here to learn more.
Stroll & Chat
Every Tuesday morning we run a free weekly walking group open to everyone, come rain or shine, for a gentle stroll and friendly chat. Make friends, boost your health and learn a bit of local history at the same time. Click here for more information.
BS3 Toddlers
Weekly playgroup session suitable for all ages with a range of fun activities including crafts, singing and sensory play. A welcoming space to meet new people and feel part of the community. To learn more click here.
