BS3 Community Development is delighted to announce the appointment of Emma Brech as its new Chief Executive Officer. Emma, pictured centre, joined the organisation in April 2026, following the retirement of long-serving CEO Simon Hankins in March after 13 years of dedicated leadership.
Emma brings over 25 years’ experience in the voluntary sector, with a strong focus on community-based approaches to mental health, wellbeing and participation. She is a Clore Social Fellow and has built a career leading inclusive services and driving systems change rooted in social justice, resilience and equity.
Prior to joining BS3 Community, Emma was CEO of Bristol Mind, and before that led The Maya Centre in London. In both roles, she successfully stabilised and grew services, strengthening their impact through co-production, collaboration and a deep understanding of community needs.
As a Bristol resident, Emma is passionate about the role BS3 Community plays as a local hub for connection, creativity and support. She is particularly interested in amplifying community voice and ensuring that services are shaped by those who use them, with a focus on reaching people who may be isolated or excluded.

I’m looking forward to working collaboratively with the team and a range of local residents and partners to see how we can involve and inspire our local community. It has always been a dream of mine to lead a community centre and I appreciate this unique opportunity. I can’t wait to see where our new journey takes us.”
Looking ahead, Emma sees significant potential to build on BS3 Community’s strong foundations. Her vision includes developing inclusive services for people of all ages, expanding opportunities for volunteering and community participation, and strengthening partnerships across Bristol to support neighbourhood-based approaches to health and wellbeing.
Emma’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for BS3 Community as it continues to build on Simon Hankins’ legacy and develop its role as a thriving, inclusive organisation serving South Bristol.
